Pack for the DS. The differences are that with the Wii version you'll have easy 2-player support, while the DS requires 2(up to 6) people to have DS's, and of course the DS is portable. The way the game plays is drastically different between the two systems. The DS game is much more precise and let's you use your skills rather than just relying on how fast you can react. The WiiWare version costs 800 points (in the US) and will require 285 blocks of memory. This game deserves to be on a cartridge by itself. You face 5 adversaries, each of which has a set of 10 unique levels for you to pass. Then there's and area where you face each of the 5 characters (your paddle at the bottom while theirs is at the top). The Siren is a random level generator - so, you'll never get bored. A Shop will sell you gifts and paddle upgrades. The upgrades are unlocked by giving certain gifts to a lady with a Jet Ski, then you have to purchase them at the Shop. The Jet Ski section also has 10 unique levels for each of the unlockable items. You can use the stylus or the directional pad to play. It has the ability to transfer a limited copy of the game to another DS, work over the WiFi, and it supports up to 6 players. The statistics it gathers are really extensive. As far as game mechanics, it's easier than some Block Breaker versions, and there are no settings for difficulty. If you're great at breaking blocks, then it will be a breeze, and a lot of fun. If you've never played the game before, it's a decent challenge, but not too hard. Using headphones gets you the full effect of the music's lower and higher range of sounds, and the soundtrack isn't all that bad. A few of the tracks will get you into the mood to play the levels. Drawbacks: If you share the game with someone, your scores will be mixed. ______________________________________________________________________________ == Menu System [MNS3] == ============================================================================== New Game You will be prompted with a No/Yes question regarding the starting of a new game. A is used for selection, while the d-pad is for navigation. You can also use the stylus. During gameplay, you can use the stylus to move the paddle, but I find it's much more accurate to use the d-pad. (The d-pad is the up/down/right/left arrows on the left of the DS. You can use the A button to launch a ball at the beginning of a game, or you can double-tab the lower screen with the stylus. The Left and Right shoulder buttons and the up direction on the d-pad will also launch the ball. Shaking the paddle back and forth (with the stylus or the d-pad) will also launch the ball. The magnet effect causes a ball to stick to the paddle. The above buttons can then be used to re-launch the ball. When the magnet effect is active, you can hold A, or either of the Left or Right shoulder buttons, or the up direction on the d-pad - to make the paddle work as if the magnet effect was not active. Remember, a heart is never worth loosing your balls over. Items will be falling all the time - don't go for them before you reflect your balls. Items fall a lot slower and you'll almost always have enough time to grab them. If you don't have time, don't worry about it. As far as Block Breakers go, this version is very forgiving. You can actually grab items or reflect balls by hitting it with the side of the paddle. If you want to restart or abandon a level, just press the Start button and choose 'Main Menu'. From there you can choose Continue to return to your last active board, or 'City Map' to go somewhere else for a while. The board/level you were on will be saved for you the next time you return to it. Before each level, when it says, 'tap the screen to start', you can just press the A button, if you're not using a stylus. Navigating around the City Map can be done with the d-pad; enter a selected location by pressing A. To select items on the Menu System, you have to use the stylus. ______________________________________________________________________________ == Balls and Bricks and Items [BLBR] == ============================================================================== First off, what I call a 'paddle', they shorten to 'pad' in the game. When I use the word 'slice' I'm talking about reflecting the ball by bouncing it off of the end/tip of the paddle, so that it moves in a path that is almost as horizontal as possible. Balls Gigaball > Green Slightly more powerful than the standard blue. Breaks any brick with a single hit, but does not go through them. Explosion > Black Press the 'Y' button three times to power it up. It's center will glow orange. Press the Left or Right shoulder buttons, the A button, or Up on d-pad to detonate the ball when it's near blocks. The trajectory of the ball will not be altered. Ultraball > Orange Will break any brick with one hit. Only reflects off of exterior walls. When it hits a brick it will continue it's trajectory through it. Ghost > Dark Blue Ghost balls are there to get in your way during some of the Underground Arena matches. They won't break or effect any bricks. Bricks hits to brick break details Pink 1 Blue 1 Blue Brick with a Blue circle in the center. Contains items. Green 3 Shows damage level while being destroyed. Metal 25 May contain items. Hybrid 1 Half Yellow, half Metal, these can only be broken from the yellow side. They come in 4 combinations. Faker - Blue tips and Purple in the center. Hit it once and it will go away.. but then it comes right back again. Trigger 1 Orange/Blue blocks used to activate board pattern changes. Switch - Blue blocks with orange dots in the center. Hitting it once will change the orange dot to blue. Switching all of the Switch blocks is like hitting a Trigger. Bomb 1 Red tips and a yellow center - explodes when hit. Casino 1 Yellow brick with a red '7' on it - initiates slots. Poker 1 White bricks with a spade, heart, diamond, or club symbol. Catch as many as you can. What you don't catch goes to your opponent. Once all Poker blocks have been gathered, the hands are compared and you may receive a bonus. Craps 1 When hit, it will break into two red dice. Reflecting the dice several times will increase your luck and give you extra spins. If the two dice collide, they will reform the Craps brick and if combination on the dice is a valid craps roll, you will be rewarded. Items Life A pink heart that gives you an extra life. Lasers Hold the Left or Right shoulder button, the A button, or Up on the d-pad to fire. Multi Ball Spawns 2 additional balls. Speed Ball Increases the speed of the ball. Slow Down Decreases the speed of the ball. Shield Creates a line at the bottom of the level that will reflect balls. Upgrades to the number of times a ball can be reflected can be unlocked and purchased in the Jet Ski and Shop locations. Large Pad Makes the paddle wider. 3 of these will max the width. Small Pad Makes the paddle shorter. 3 of these will min the width. Invisible Makes the paddle invisible for a short time. Magnet Makes the paddle sticky. The paddle will hold balls until they are launched again. Upgrades to the number of balls that can be held can be unlocked and purchased in the Jet Ski and Shop locations. Yo-Yo Makes lines between the paddle and the balls. Holding down the Left or Right shoulder buttons, the A button, or Up on the d-pad will reel in the ball to the paddle. If Magnet is active the ball(s) will stick to the paddle. This is extremely handy. Gifts There is one gift per club level to obtain. If you miss your chance to catch it, you can always purchase it at the Shop. (See the Shop section of this FAQ for gift lists.) ______________________________________________________________________________ == Shop [POHS] == ============================================================================== Owner: -none- Navigating the Shop menu is easy. The top row of tabs shows the levels as well as Upgrades and Lives. Use the stylus or the d-pad to scroll through the items. The arrow in the bottom left corner will return you to the Map menu and the $ at the bottom right will ask you if you want to purchase the currently selected item. You can win all of the main items in their respective levels, or you can purchase them here. Each item costs the same per 'location', except Upgrades and Lives. Non-Upgrade items (or 'gifts') can be used to unlock Upgrades. To remove upgrades, you will have to clear all of your save data for this game. Also, don't waste your money on Level 2 or 3 items when you could be saving up for Ultra's - if that's what you're wanting. **Getting enough money to purchase the Ultraball will take some time. Once you unlock the Underground Arena, you'll be able to grab $1,500,000 once about every 10 minutes of play (including the menu-times and game saving). If I did the math correctly, that should take about 6 hrs. ______________________________________________________________________________ == Jet Ski [JTSK] == ============================================================================== Owner: -unknown- The only way to know what you've completed in this section is to look for the unlocked item in the Shop. The reward for a challenge depends on the level you're playing. Each is listed below. You can also obtain: No Lives Lost: $2,000 This is even if you have the challenge 'Do Not Loose Any Lives', and sometimes that payback will be less than $2,000. Gifts are listed below in each level, and are encased in brackets: [] For a full list of gifts, see the 'Shop' section. If you don't catch it when it falls, you can always purchase it at the Shop later. Before the timer runs out on a level, bomb blocks will appear near any blocks you have yet to break. If you happen to clear the one's you had left to break you'll also have to clear the additional bombs. Your score, remaining time, and life count will display on the top screen. Level 1 Challenge Reward: $500 This one only takes a few seconds. Start on the sides and grab the money. Pick up the Laser if you can, then clear the center and grab the [Roses] and the extra life (also in top center). Level 2 Challenge Reward: $600 Choose a side and launch, leaving the middle alone so the ball will be able to bounce around above it and give you time to grab the items that fall. Money will be found in the blue bricks of the lower middle section's sides, paddle extenders will be in the lower-center blue brick and in the one's near the top sides. The rest of the blue bricks will hold multiballs. The [Sunglasses] are in a green brick just above the center. Level 3 Challenge Reward: $700 Start on one of the sides. The blue bricks (from left to right) will have paddle extenders, multiballs, paddle extenders, multiballs. Once you hit one of the bomb bricks, most of the surrounding section will be gone. The [Tennis Cap] will fall from the top center. Level 4 Challenge Reward: $800 Center the paddle with the rightmost brick, launch, and slightly move the paddle to the left, so you can slice the angle. The shiny new Metal bricks may seem to be unbreakable, but it just takes a lot of hits. You have enough time on this level to work your way inside the area by taking out a Metal, but the time you loose costs you reward money. The yellow/Metal bricks can only be taken out from the yellow side. It may take a little bit to get the ball up there, using the right side, but slicing it as much as you can will help. The [Bathing Suit] will drop from the center and you'll have plenty of time to grab it. Blue bricks contain: multiballs, magnets, and gigaballs (which break through Metal's in one hit). Level 5 Challenge Reward: $900 That lower-center blue is going to give you a magnet. Clear the right side to get the multiballs, and ultraball. The middle-center will have the [After Midnight]. Those lower-center Metal's will contain three Lives. If you loose the magnet or ultraball, you'll have other chances to grab them on this level. They bring in the Craps bricks which act like balls, except you'll be able to 'roll' them to get bonuses. Chips fall from bricks as payout for various goals, the background is dark red, so you can easily see the little blue ball, and the best thing is that they're fairly challenging. Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Level 6 Level 7 Level 8 Level 9 Level 10 ______________________________________________________________________________ == Shark's Bay [SHBY] == ============================================================================== Owner: Ace "The Shark" Price to enter: $1,000,000 The price to play these levels must be paid each time through. Level 1 Challenge Reward: $4,500 Time: 03:00 Do not hit the center Casino block first. With a few bounces, clear the blocks beside it and get the two paddle extenders from the blue blocks. Then move to the right side and get one of the other lower blue blocks for a shield. Once you have that, hit the Casino and move the paddle to the right to collect your winning chips. You'll notice that the right side has one less green brick and that's where you'll want to start the bombs off from. You can hardly miss grabbing an invisible paddle item, so you may have to deal with it. Hopefully, your shield is still intact. If it isn't, grab the other one (from the lower left). You're also going to get a laser at the same time as the invisible. Hold A to fire, clear out anything left above you and change those Switches (orange dots) to blue. [Cigars] will fall on the right side, and now you'll have some Poker blocks to hit. Clearing the remaining three sections will be easy, due to the bomb bricks. Level 2 Challenge Reward: $4,500 Time: 03:00 Take out the center Casino block and grab as many chips as you can - if you're lucky enough to win that pull. Go ahead and bounce it around enough to break the lower Metal blocks on the sides because they contain hearts. Then change the Switches (orange dots) to blue, and you'll grab a few nice items like the laser and the shield. Before you take out the center Trigger block make sure you have all four items from the lower blue blocks. The shield will come in handy while you're trying to grab the falling chips, and almost the whole screen will change to pink bricks - easy to clear with the laser. Don't worry too much about what you're aiming at, just keep firing and reflecting the ball. Poker blocks will be at either side at the top. Once you hit the middle Trigger brick, the entire center will turn to bombs and a [lucky necktie] will fall from the center top. The very top center Trigger brick will create a layered cluster of bombs near the bottom and it's going to drop you an Ultraball item, which will really help you get those pesky Metal bricks (and the Poker's above them) near the top sides. Level 3 Challenge Reward: $4,700 Time: 03:00 Starting on the side with the green blocks is possible, and quite fun, but let's go with the center Casino block first because it's going to make it a lot faster to clear this level. Let it keep bouncing directly up the center and those blues are going to give you lasers. Still ignore the green blocks on the sides and keep firing/bouncing in the center until you've changed those three Switches (orange dots) to blue and taken out the Trigger block at the top. The green blocks will change to bomb blocks and pink blocks, and you'll have no worries with finishing them off. Level 4 Challenge Reward: $4,800 Time: 03:00 Hit the Craps, and keep hitting them. Loose a life if you need to, but keep bouncing those dice. Level 5 Challenge Reward: $ Time: Level 6 Challenge Reward: $ Time: Level 7 Challenge Reward: $ Time: Level 8 Challenge Reward: $ Time: Level 9 Challenge Reward: $ Time: Level 10 Challenge Reward: $ Time: ______________________________________________________________________________ == Underground Arena [UNRN] == ============================================================================== Owner: James Lauren Price to enter: Complete the other levels to unlock keywords that make the phrase: "Remember Bricks Don't Fight Back". There is no way to enter this just because you know it. You have to earn it. Play against the pro's. Your paddle will be at the bottom and theirs at the top. The first player to 5 points wins. Money and scores will be listed on the top screen. Loosing means nothing. You don't loose lives or money. There are no timers during these levels, so relax and keep trying. If you don't want to loose a match: press Start, then choose 'Main Menu' and 'Continue' to reset the scores to zero for that level. Completing all five matches will net you $1,500,000, which just happens to be how much you need to unlock The Siren levels. It should take you less than 8 or 9 minutes to complete all five of these matches. Each level you face has the colours of the opponents' respective locations. If you have trouble seeing the ball on the blue boards, try tilting your DS. Angelina Croft (Neon Rose) Reward: $100,000 She's really slow. Get her to one side, then slice it with the edge of the paddle and she won't be able to catch it for the rebound. The layout of the level is simple, with only three Metal bricks in the center. One way to easily win, is to bounce it once on the center brick, then move the paddle to the side to get the ball to bounce off of the tip so that it slices too far for her to reflect in time. Ben Jordan (Club 22) Reward: $200,000 The Ghost balls that come from the center blue brick are not what counts. They're only there to distract you. Your opponent will never be faked-out by them. They're slightly darker blue, so focus. And try not to destroy the Metal bricks that are closest to your paddle. The expert way to win the level is to clear the Metal's on the side, and use the blue bricks inside them to make your opponent's paddle tiny then slice him up. Michelle De Palma (Marco's Grove) Reward: $300,000 Try to break at least one Metal brick above you, then slice as best you can. This level is a lot easier than the last, so you can relax a little and have some fun with it. If you clear all three of your Metal's, winning is easy. Pamela Wilde (Coconut Casino) Reward: $400,000 Leave the Metal brick alone and try to focus on the right side of the board. The left blue brick will launch those dark blue balls, and the right blue brick will make either of the paddles larger. Hit it three times and she'll be easy enough to finish off. The dark blue 'Ghost' balls do not effect the other blue block's ability to change the size of your paddle. Ace "The Shark" (Shark's Bay) Reward: $500,000 There's nothing fancy about this level. Just some Metal bricks, and again with the blue background, it's a little more difficult to see the ball. Break the Metal one above you (Ace may break his early as well), and if you have time to clear the center, it will help, but more than likely you'll already have finished him off with side-paddle slices by then. ______________________________________________________________________________ == The Siren [THSR] == ============================================================================== Owner: Price to enter: $1,500,000 This is a random board generator.
